Ordering repeat prescriptions

Prescription Queries

Repeat prescriptions should be requested in advance to ensure you do not run out of medication.

How to Request a Repeat Prescription

You can order your repeat prescription in the following ways:

  • NHS App – The fastest and easiest way to request repeat prescriptions.
  • SystmOnline – Secure online access to request repeat medication.
  • Through Your Pharmacy – Many pharmacies can request prescriptions on your behalf.
  • In Person – Drop off your request at the reception desk.
  • By Post – Send your request to the practice. If you need it posted back, include a stamped envelope.

We do not accept prescription requests over the phone for safety reasons.

Processing Times

  • Repeat prescriptions – Allow three working days for processing.
  • Medication reviews or special requests – May take longer if a GP, Pharmacist, or Pharmacy Technician needs to review your request.
  • Controlled drugs or specialist medications – May require additional checks.

To avoid delays, request your medication before weekends or public holidays.

Prescription Queries – Who to Contact?

1. Speak to a Pharmacy Technician at the Practice

Our Pharmacy Technicians help with:

  • Repeat prescription requests
  • Medication changes after hospital discharge
  • Supply issues or medication shortages
  • Prescription safety checks

Contact our Pharmacy Technicians through reception or submit a request via eConsult.

2. Use the Online Consultation Form

For non-urgent queries, you can submit a request using eConsult. This is available during opening hours, and we will respond during practice hours.

Use this for:

  • Questions about side effects or how to take your medication.
  • A request for a medication review.
  • General prescription concerns.

3. Speak to Your Local Pharmacy

Your pharmacist can provide advice on:

  • How to take your medicine correctly
  • Side effects or interactions with other medicines
  • Over-the-counter treatments for minor conditions

Find a local pharmacy here.

For information about specific medicines, visit the NHS Medicines A-Z.

4. Contact the Prescription Team

For queries about issued prescriptions, you can:

  • Submit a query via eConsult
  • Call after 10:00 am to avoid peak times
  • Speak to reception in person

Medication Reviews

Some prescriptions require regular reviews. We will notify you by text message or on your prescription slip if a review is needed.

You may need an appointment with:

  • A GP, Pharmacist, or Pharmacy Technician for long-term medication checks.
  • A Nurse for asthma, diabetes, or blood pressure reviews.

Electronic Prescription Service (EPS)

You can nominate a pharmacy to receive your prescriptions electronically. This means your GP can send your prescription directly to your chosen pharmacy, saving time.

How to Nominate a Pharmacy

  • Use the NHS App to update your pharmacy.
  • Ask your pharmacist or GP practice to make the change.
  • You can change your nominated pharmacy at any time.

Urgent Prescriptions & Emergency Medication

If you have run out of medication and need an urgent supply:

  • During practice hours – Contact reception by telephone.
  • Out of hours – Visit a pharmacy that offers the NHS Emergency Supply Service or call NHS 111.

Some medications, such as controlled drugs, may not be issued urgently without a GP review.
