Medical Reports & Certificates
Many employers, insurance providers, and other organisations require a medical report or certificate. As these are not covered by the NHS, a fee applies.

How to Request a Medical Report:
- Submit your request via reception or our online request form.
- A GP may need to assess your records before completing the report.
- Fees must be paid before the document is issued.
ENG1 Seafarer Medical Examination
The ENG1 Seafarer Medical Examination is a statutory medical assessment required for those working at sea. It ensures that seafarers are fit to carry out their duties safely. Only doctors approved by the Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) can carry out this medical.
What Does the ENG1 Medical Include?
- Full medical history review
- Physical examination, including vision and hearing tests
- Urinalysis and blood pressure check
- Assessment of fitness for seafaring duties
- Certification upon completion, valid for up to two years (subject to medical findings)
Important Information Before Your Appointment
To avoid delays in receiving your ENG1 certificate, please ensure that you:
- Bring valid identification – You must provide one of the following original documents:
- Passport
- UK Driving Licence
- Seafarer Discharge Book
- Bring your previous ENG1 certificate – If you have a valid or recently expired ENG1 certificate, you must bring and surrender it at your appointment.
- Bring any relevant medical or optician records – If you have an existing medical condition, bring any medical records or hospital letters that may be required. If you have had an optician’s appointment, bring the report to avoid delays in certification.
- Arrange a dental check-up before your medical – Dental health is an important factor in medical fitness for seafarers, and it is advisable to have a recent dental check-up before your appointment.
- Contact lenses and glasses – If you wear glasses or contact lenses for work, you must bring them to the appointment. Do not wear contact lenses to the appointment.
- Avoid loud noises before the test – To ensure an accurate hearing assessment, avoid loud noise exposure for at least 16 hours before your appointment.
- Arrive 15 minutes before your appointment time.
