World Cancer Day

Everyone’s cancer journey is unique. Each diagnosis, treatment plan, and recovery path is different — shaped by the individual, their circumstances, and the support around them.

In the UK, we are fortunate to have access to healthcare that is free at the point of need through the NHS, ensuring care and support are available to everyone when they need it most.

Progress worth celebrating

Over the last 50 years, the proportion of the UK population dying from cancer (the cancer death rate) has fallen by more than a fifth. This is an incredible achievement and a testament to advances in:

Today, 1 in 2 people diagnosed with cancer will survive for at least ten years, compared to just 1 in 4 in the early 1970s. With ongoing research and innovation, we are on the cusp of even more improvements.
